Biography

Lithuanian Tenor Kristian Benedikt recently debuted at The Metropolitan Opera, New York, in the role of Samson in “Samson and Dalila” and in the Fall of 2019 as Hermann in Tchaikovsky’s” The Queen of Spades”.

 

Mr Benedikt has built a reputation as one of the leading international singers in the role of Verdi’s Otello. He debuted at Semperoper in Dresden in March of 2018 in this role. He has sung this demanding role more than 120 times in opera houses and festivals such as Opera de Bellas Artes in Mexico, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Bavarian State Opera Munich, Vienna State Opera, Savonlinna Opera Festival, Mariinski Theater in St. Petersburg, Opera de Montreal,Al Bustan Festival in Beirut, Modena, Piacenza, Cagliari, Palermo, Ekaterinenburg, Santiago de Chile, Vilnius, Graz, Basel Stockholm, The Latvian opera Festival and at Pacific Opera Victoria.

 

He debuted, in 2019, as Andrea Chenier in Trieste and as Calaf at Teatre Colon with Maria Guleghina. He also sang the role of Calaf at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater as well as Samson and Hermann at Vilnius City Opera, Gala concert in Pazaislis Festival.

 

Other engagements include Hermann in The Queen of Spades at the Moscow Bolshoi theater and Siegmund in Die Walkure, conducted by Alexander Vedernikov, in Odense for the opening of the new opera house.

 

Highlights of Mr. Benedikt’s past seasons include Otello (Vienna Stats Opera, Vienna) Canio (Covent Garden, London), Otello, Samson and Lohengrin (Mariinsky), Otello and Calaf (Teatro Municipal de Santiago Chile) Samson (Beijing NCPA), Hermann (Moscow Bolshoi Theater), Otello and Hermann (Hungarian National Opera), Samson (Torino Regio), Rienzi (Barcelona Liceo), Cavaradosi (Bergamo Opera) Otello (Dresden Semperoper), Alfredo, Corrado, Don Jose, Pinkerton, Duca, Eleazar, Otello, Ernani, Siegmund and Calaf (Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater), Dick Johnson (Finland National Opera), Siegmund ( Odeon in Odense), Des Grieux and Samson (Vilnius City Opera), Calaf (Macedonian National Opera), Otello (Savonlinna Festival), Otello (Al Bustan Festival), Don Jose and Edgardo (Festival Opera pa Skaret, and others.

 

Mr. Benedikt has performed under the baton of such renowned conductors as Antonio Pappano, Marcello Viotti, Marco Armiliato, Maurizio Barbacini, Paolo Carigniani, Asher Fisch, Renato Palumbo, Valeri Gergiev and Alexander Vedernikov. He has also worked with stage directors Willy Decker, David Alden, Calixto Bieito, Hugo de Ana, Dmitri Bertman, Eimuntas Nekrosius and Pier Francesco Maestrini. 

 

His last engagements include Don Alvaro ( La forza del destino) in Lisbon and Porto, Portugal, Hermann (The Queen of Spades) at Vilnius City Opera and The Metropolitan Opera. In 2020 Kristian debuted at Bilbao Opera with Bryn Terfel and Irene Theorin as Eric (Der Fliegende Hollander) as well as Calaf and Ernani at Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater.

 

As a concert singer he performs, among others, Verdi’s Requiem, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, Rachmaninov’s The Bells and Webber’s Requiem.

 

In March 2019 Mr. Benedikt sang in the concerts “Viva Verdi” at the National Opera Center in New York City and at the concert “In Memory of Francisco” produced by our partner GrandiVociConcerts.  As the reviewer said, “ the singers were able to successfully summon the entire opera in a single aria or duet – it was like feeling the ocean in a single wave”. And more specifically, “Kristian Benedikt, used his fine instrument with Gravitas as he interpreted “La vita e inferno…O tu che in seno agli angeli” from La Forza del Destino”. (Voce di Meche)

 

Mr. Benedikt’s first CD was released in 2019 by DELOS.

 

Mr. Benedikt is not solely represented by any manager in the United States and worldwide. We are representing him in North America and some European Theaters non exclusively.
